YouTube Shorts Dream Screen May Create AI Video Backgrounds
YouTube has updated its 'Dream Screen' tool for Shorts, enabling content creators to create AI-powered video backgrounds.
Previously, Dream Screen could only generate static image backgrounds. However, the new version includes Google DeepMind's AI video-generation model, Veo, which can make 1080p video clips in many cinematic styles.
New YouTube’s AI tool can help create video backgrounds
To use the new feature, creators must access the Shorts camera, hit the "green screen" button, and then choose "Dream Screen."
From there, users may type a text prompt, like "candy landscape" or "magical forest with a stream," select an animation style, and click "Create."
The functionality will provide a list of video background choices for users to choose from. It allows them to record Shorts with AI-created backgrounds.
YouTube emphasizes the feature's potential for generating unique content, such as immersing oneself in a beloved book's setting or making an animated introduction.
Looking ahead, YouTube intends to enhance the tool's capabilities, letting creators create standalone 6-second video pieces for Shorts.
Importantly, this new feature gives YouTube the advantage over TikTok, which only provides AI-generated picture backgrounds and does not yet enable video backgrounds.
The Dream Screen video feature is now accessible to creators in the United States, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
