YouTube is launching a new AI-powered chatbot to enable users to "dive deeper into the content they are watching."
"Answers to questions about the video you're watching, suggestions for related content, and more, all without interrupting playback," is what YouTube promises its new conversational feature will offer.
A "small number of people on a subset of videos" was able to use the "YouChat" function as of November 6th.
It will be available on Android smartphones to YouTube Premium subscribers in the US in the coming weeks, the video site announced.
YouTube launches test of AI Chatbot
When using the experimental chatbot functionality, users can start by selecting a recommended prompt or asking questions regarding the selected video by hitting the new "Ask" button underneath the video.
According to a YouTube representative, Google's Bard chatbot is not utilized by the conversational tool.
Instead, the representative stated that the replies "are generated by large language models that draw on information from the YouTube platform and the web."
Furthermore, YouTube is testing a different experimental generative AI tool that summarizes subjects in lengthy comment sections so that users may quickly observe and catch up on the discussions taking place within a video.
YouTube stated that it hopes that this feature would assist creators in quickly learning about the topics that their fans are discussing.
Large comment sections on a "small number of English videos" are the subject of this test; YouTube Premium subscribers can choose to test it out at youtube.com/new.
