Using written descriptions, users will be able to edit images and create "high-quality videos" on Facebook and Instagram thanks to new AI-powered creative tools.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, revealed that Facebook and Instagram will be incorporating two new features that are based on Emu, the company's image-generating foundation model.

Meta teases new AI-powered editing tools

Using the first, called "Emu Edit," users can "precisely alter images based on text inputs."

With no prior knowledge of image editing, they may change or delete objects and people from images using this tool, which is demonstrated in a video similar to those offered by Google, Adobe, and Canva.

Meta is currently developing a second tool called "Emu Video."

Zuckerberg's teaser was accompanied by a blog post by Meta that claims this one can create video based on language instructions, reference images, or both.

Although the outcomes are far from realistic, they also appear to be an improvement over the clumsy animations that Meta's Make-A-Video system was generating the previous year.

It seems especially obvious for Meta to include a native AI-based picture editing function in its social media channels.

Similar tools abound, such as Adobe's generative fill for Photoshop and Google Photos Magic Editor. Still, it is undoubtedly easier for Instagram and Facebook users to avoid switching to a third-party service.
